INTRODUCTION:

Food and Drug Administration (U.S) defines drug or medicine as a substance used in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention of diseases or as component of medication or a drug is any substance (other than food that provides nutritional support) which when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed in the skin, or dissolved under the tongue causes a physiological change in the body.¹

“PILL FOR EVERY ILL” is a saying which is being gave all attention and went after. It may not be possible to have a disease free world but we can be minded to get for answers to rest being very unhappy or poor and make person getting care's living more comfortable to a greater amount. The main purpose is to make certain good quality of living to persons getting care.

This can only be achieved with quality Drugs with greatest point therapeutic help and least possible or recorded side effects, ready (to be used) to all at low price.²

Banned drugs are those drugs which are not allowed to intake because they could artificially improve their performance and shows various adverse effects more than therapeutic effects. Use or production of these drugs are strictly controlled or prohibited via prescription.³

Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) was formed with accordance to Indian Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940 and established by Government of India in 1945 under executive orders. IPC is an autonomous institution of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare which sets standards for all drugs that are manufactured, sold and consumed in India.⁴

India has become a depot for banned drugs, the business for production of banned drugs is roaring and many people don’t perceive about these banned drugs and consume and cause illness to one-self. Side effects of drugs are not reported by physicians, Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) is the exclusive authority who endorses the manufacture, sale and ban of a drug. Process of drug development is the blooming process that composes and encourages a drug with minimum reaction to the human consuming the drugs, drugs go through rigorous testing before recommended to market safety and efficacy of drugs are tested, after process of quality control drugs are released into the market, sometimes side effects appears after the use of drugs in common population. Severe side effects of drugs of using the drug outweigh the benefits\drug is ineffective country can ban the drug or Drug Company may itself withdraw the drug. In some cases drug causes reaction when combine to a particular drugs, in that case fixed dose combination is ban but not the individual drug.⁵

WHAT DRUGS ARE BANNED?:

There are many types of Drugs that are stopped in physical act for amusement because of the damage they can do to an expert at physical acts for amusement's being healthy and to light play. Every year a new list of stopped Drugs is groomed by the World Anti-Doping office. These Drugs fall within the succeeding groups:

· Narcotics can relieve pain, but this could be point leading to a lasting injury.

· Cannabinoids (hashish, marijuana) act as relaxants, but may also lead to a loss of coordination and concentration.⁶

REASONS OF DRUGS BANNING:

Adverse drug reactions, or ADRs, are supposedly described as ‘A life to an abused substance which is disgusting and unintended, and which occurs at doses normally used for the sterilization, diagnosis or medicine of epidemic, or for the variation of physiological function’. Drug Controller General of India is the champion authority in India to arrive the attempt of the whole drug or to halt a drug. PROCESS OF BANNING:

Why, ban drug are available?

Cost is a time signature put for consumers of medicines in developing countries. In many developing nations, medicines can explain up to 90% of household expenditure on health, making the change of attitude a key determinant in whether or not people have access. The latest reports represent that India is a well known of the few countries that move large rival of various banned drugs to diverse parts of the world. Many of the drugs that have been banned in developed countrieswhich are easily available in India.⁷

· Regulatory bodies lack enforcement power,

· Due to the poverty line in India these drugs are easily marketed at low costs.

· Many private practitioners and physicians are unaware about the ban.

· Non –compliance by the patient by self prescribing the drugs for common ailments and disorders. The patient has a mindset that he gets well fast with the drug he takes like Nimesulide, Rofecoxib, Phenylpropanolamine for common ailments such as cold, cough, head ache, etc and they don't know about the side effects, whether these drugs are banned or not.^10-11

· Because of self prescription, numbers of allergic and anaphylactic reactions are occurring frequently in India. This can be prevented by public awareness programmes regarding the status, use, and side effects of self prescription.

· Non-availability of appropriate drugs and their high cost.

· Prescribers lack of knowledge and experience.^11-12

· In some places such as Ludhiana, the department has no provision for notifying to hospital and doctors about the status of these banned drugs except through newspaper.

· One of the reasons for the free availability of banned drugs in the market is this communication gap between the DCGI and state drug controllers. A recent case concern phenformin formulations. The product is still available in the market after its ban order issued on 1stOctober 2003. A serious problem confronting the medical profession today is the lack of updating of their knowledge about existing and new drugs.²
